Dolphins lose another defensive starter as DeShon Elliott reportedly joins Steelers
Another Dolphins defensive starter is heading elsewhere.
Safety DeShon Elliott, who started 15 games in Miami last season, is signing a two-year deal worth $6 million with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Bleacher Report.
The Dolphins signed Elliott to a one-year deal last offseason and he won a training camp competition to start alongside Jevon Holland. Elliott recorded 82 tackles, seven pass breakups and one interception.
This week, Miami agreed to terms with former Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer on a one-year deal.
Elliott is the fifth Dolphins defender who has agreed to sign elsewhere this offseason, joining defensive tackles Christian Wilkins (Las Vegas Raiders) and Raekwon Davis (Indianapolis Colts), safety Brandon Jones (Denver Broncos) and outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (Minnesota Vikings).
The Dolphins have also lost full- or part-time contributors in cornerback Xavien Howard, inside linebacker Jerome Baker and defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, who have been released.
Miami, though, has retooled its defensive personnel in the first week of free agency. The Dolphins have signed or agreed to terms with seven defensive players, most notably inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks, safety Jordan Poyer and cornerback Kendall Fuller.
