Dolphins agree to terms with former Titans center Aaron Brewer, report says

The Dolphins are set to lose standout right guard Robert Hunt but are bringing in reinforcements along the offensive line and have a new starting center.

Miami agreed to terms with former Tennessee Titans center Aaron Brewer on a three-year deal worth $21 million, NFL Network reported.

Brewer, who turns 27 in October, is seemingly set to replace Connor Williams, who started at center the past two seasons but is an unrestricted free agent. General manager Chris Grier said the team would give Williams time to focus on his rehab after he tore his ACL last December. Williams’ agent also said he may take some time to sign with a team but Miami moved quickly to find a potential replacement.

Brewer, 6-1 and 295 pounds, entered the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Texas State but has developed into a full-time starter the last two seasons. He transitioned from guard to center in the 2023 season. Brewer has the athletic profile that should fit in head coach Mike McDaniel’s zone-based running scheme.

While Brewer should mesh well as an athletic run blocker, he has struggled at times in pass protection. He allowed six sacks this past season, the second most among centers, according to Pro Football Focus. And his 34 pressures allowed were the third most of all centers, according to PFF.

Brewer, though, is the first addition this offseason to what will be a new-look offensive line in 2024. Hunt is reportedly signing a five-year, $100 million deal with the Carolina Panthers. Isaiah Wynn, who started the season at left guard but sustained a season-ending quad injury, is an unrestricted free agent. There is interest in bringing him back.

Left tackle Terron Armstead, who reportedly finalized a reworked deal, is returning for his third season in Miami after contemplating retirement. And right tackle Austin Jackson, who signed a three-year extension last December, is also set to return as a starter.

The Dolphins are also re-signing Robert Jones to a one-year deal, a source said. Jones could compete to start at one of the guard spots in 2024.

Grier acknowledged the team would have to sign multiple offensive linemen in free agency this offseason. The signing of Brewer could be the start of a rebuild in the trenches.
