Dolphins outside linebacker Bradley Chubb sustained a potentially serious knee injury late in Miami’s blowout loss to the Ravens that required him to be carted off the field.

With Miami down 49-19 and three minutes left in the game, Chubb’s knee buckled as he chased down Baltimore running back Melvin Gordon. After several minutes on the ground, Chubb was carted into the Dolphins’ locker room.

After the game, coach Mike McDaniel said the team would get more information on the severity of Chubb’s injury on Monday.

“Seeing a competitor go down and then have to get a cart, it’s always pretty emotional,” McDaniel said.

Chubb is in the midst of his best year since his rookie season, entering the game with a team-high 11 sacks, one shy of tying his career high. His injury occurring when the game was out of reach prompted questions regarding why the team kept its defensive starters on the field with little time remaining.

McDaniel said he decided to keep the players on the field but, “I understand fully that it doesn’t look very smart at at all.”

He added: “The players wanted to go back in and play and finish the right way heading into next week. ... I would like a time machine for sure in that situation after the events occurred.”

Defensive lineman Christian Wilkins called Chubb’s injury a “tough situation ... you always want to compete to the end.”
