Dolphins face Jets without several key starters. Who’s active, who’s not
The Dolphins were without several starters for their home game against the New York Jets on Sunday, a 30-0 win for Miami.
Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was inactive and did not play, one of multiple key contributors sidelined for the divisional matchup.
Hill was listed as questionable to play after he didn’t practice because of an ankle injury he sustained against the Tennessee Titans. Hill, who entered Week 15 on pace for the NFL’s first 2,000-yard receiving season, missed his first game since arriving in Miami before the 2022 season.
Coach Mike McDaniel said after the game that Hill was “pretty close” to playing.
“That wasn’t the easiest decision,” McDaniel said, “but when you look at what’s the best decision for the team and what’s the best decision for him ... it became easier in the moment just because we have the right well-intentioned people that are looking at this as their responsibility to protect players first and foremost. I think some decisions are hard but easy at the same time.”
Cornerback Xavien Howard (hip) and safety Jevon Holland (knees) were also inactive after being listed as questionable.
Howard injured his hip on the first drive of the Titans game but completed the game. He was limited in practice during the week. Howard missed his third game of the season. It’s the third straight missed game and fourth of the season for Holland, who is dealing with a sprained MCL in both knees.
Offensive linemen Terron Armstead, Austin Jackson and Liam Eichenberg; rookie running back De’Von Achane; and linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel were active despite being listed as questionable.
The Dolphins also made the following players inactive: right guard Robert Hunt (hamstring), safety DeShon Elliott (concussion), quarterback Skylar Thompson (emergency QB) and outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul.
