Could the Dolphins play in Brazil in 2024? NFL announces game in South America
Could the Dolphins be playing another international game in 2024?
The NFL on Wednesday voted to play its first regular-season game in South America next season. Brazil will be the host for the historic matchup, which will be played at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo.
For weeks, the Dolphins have been speculated as a possible team to play in the league’s first regular-season game in South America. Miami is the only team with international marketing rights in Brazil. ESPN Deportes reported last week that the league wants to play a game in Brazil, and the Dolphins are expected to be one of the participants.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, an NFC team would be the home team for the game in Brazil because of the league’s schedule rotation.
Teams playing in the Brazil game will be announced early next year, and the date and kickoff time will be confirmed once the full schedule is announced, typically in the spring.
The Dolphins are set to play eight home games and nine road games in the 2024 season. The team is scheduled to have road NFC matchups against the Los Angeles Rams, the Seattle Seahawks and the NFC North team that has the same division finish.
Miami played in the first regular-season game in Frankfurt, Germany, in Week 9, a 21-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The game in Brazil is one of five confirmed international matchups in the 2024 season. The NFL will also hold three games in London and one in Munich.
The league also voted to increase its annual slate of international games from four to eight, beginning in 2025.
