Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill sustained an ankle injury that sidelined him for portions of Monday night’s home game against the Tennessee Titans, a 28-27 loss for Miami.

Hill sustained the injury with about three minutes left in the first quarter and spent the rest of the first half watching from the sideline but returned for the offense’s second drive of the second half.

Hill was injured after being tackled awkwardly on a screen pass along Tennessee’s sideline. He began to limp toward the Dolphins’ sideline and then began running as the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium chanted “MVP.”

Hill didn’t immediately head to the medical tent for evaluation but made a brief appearance before exiting. A trainer held his helmet for the rest of the half and he returned to the sideline still in uniform during the opening possession of the second half but without his helmet and his ankles untaped. He later entered the game and finished with four catches for 61 yards, his fourth-lowest output of the season.

After the game, Hill said he had been dealing with ankle issues all season but decided during halftime that he was going to go back into the game.

“My adrenaline kicked in, I ran off the field, then I sat for a while and it got stiff and I was going through a lot of pain,” he said.

He said he wasn’t able to cut and move like normal and that the ankle injury would likely linger throughout the rest of the season.

Earlier in the first quarter, starting center Connor Williams sustained a knee injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. Williams entered the locker room after being evaluated in the medical tent and then returned to the sideline out of uniform with a brace on his left knee.

Coach Mike McDaniel said the team would know more about the severity of Williams’ injury on Tuesday.

Liam Eichenberg, who started at right guard, moved to center while Robert Jones entered the game at right guard.

Safety DeShon Elliott also exited the game late in the second half and did not return. Elliott sustained a ribs injury and was evaluated for a concussion after colliding with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins toward the end of the first half. He returned to the game for the start of the second half but was later downgraded to out late in the fourth quarter.

With Elliott out, Elijah Campbell filled in at safety. Elliott’s injury left Miami without its top two safeties as Jevon Holland was inactive for a second straight game because of injuries to his knees.
