Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey named AFC Defensive Player of the Week
Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording two interceptions and the game-ending pick in the team’s win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The honor comes in Ramsey’s third game back since returning from meniscus surgery that sidelined him for the first seven games of the season. In three games, Ramsey has recorded three interceptions, which leads the Dolphins. He’s the first Dolphins player to win Defensive Player of the Week honors this season and first since corner Xavien Howard in Week 10 of the 2021 season.
The Week 11 victory marked Ramsey’s third career game with two interceptions. He became the first Dolphins player with at least two picks in a game since 2018, joining Howard.
“Both of them were great plays,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on Tuesday. “A lot of interceptions are tips, overthrow, a really bad throw by the quarterback or something along those lines. These were just two really, really great plays.”
It’s the second time Ramsey has won Defensive Player of the Week honors in his career; he also was given the award as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16 of the 2016 season.
Ramsey is the fourth Dolphins defensive back to win the award in the last 10 seasons, joining Howard, Brent Grimes and Louis Delmas.
