Jalen Ramsey reportedly will make Dolphins debut vs. Patriots. Ramsey disputes report

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey is planning to make his Dolphins debut against the New England Patriots on Sunday, ESPN reported, marking his return from a knee injury that has sidelined him on injured reserve for the first seven games of the season.

Ramsey, however, quickly disputed the report on X (formerly known as Twitter), writing: “So this is why I just got a crazy amount of texts. Well, this is news to me. mfs don’t care about being right, they care about being first in today’s media. That’s sad.”

In another post, he wrote: “Full transparency, there’s a CHANCE that I can play this Sunday, but that decision genuinely isn’t made yet so that is news to me just like it is to y’all lol. I have to go through a whole process to feel GREAT enough to play. I won’t play if I feel any less than GREAT.”

Ramsey sustained a non-contact meniscus injury on the second day of training camp in late July that required surgery. However, he returned to practice last week, spending time with the scout team, and has practiced with the starting defense this week.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, speaking on Wednesday, was noncommittal about whether Ramsey would play on Sunday but was positive about the progress he made.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio on Thursday said Ramsey was “progressing well.”

“It’s been all positive so far but you don’t want to get ahead of yourself in that,” McDaniel said. “And that’s the way from a coaching staff perspective we’re handling it, as we’re prepared for either way and we’ll just see how each day progresses for him.”

Ramsey, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro selection, was the Dolphins’ top offseason addition. If Ramsey plays, cornerback Xavien Howard returns from a groin injury that sidelined him against the Philadelphia Eagles and safety Jevon Holland clears concussion protocol, Miami will have its projected starting defense on the field for the first time all season on Sunday.

“I don’t really know what’s going on through [Fangio’s] head,” outside linebacker Bradley Chubb said. “But I know that once those pieces [Ramsey and Howard] get back, I know he’s going to have something drawn up or whatever it may be and we’re going to be ready for it. I know those guys are licking their chops to get back on the field and I know he’s going to put us in the best positions to make plays and when you have a lot of playmakers on the field like that, something’s going to have to pop. Something’s going to have to happen so I’m just looking forward to having those guys back and I know they’re looking forward to being back on the field as well.”
