The Dolphins have played the first half of the season without multiple key players but could get some back in the near future.

According to multiple reports, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who underwent knee surgery in late July, is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation. NFL Network reported that Ramsey could return to practice as soon as this upcoming week. ESPN reported that Ramsey is pushing to play sometime in the next month.

Ramsey underwent surgery to address a non-contact meniscus injury he sustained during the team’s second training camp practice. The Dolphins did not give a timeline for his return but NFL Network previously reported that Ramsey underwent a full meniscus repair that will sideline him until December.

When asked last Thursday if he’s optimistic Ramsey will be able to play in a game in November, cornerbacks coach/pass game specialist Sam Madison said: “Yeah, speaking with trainers, he looks really good.”

Last Monday, coach Mike McDaniel said Ramsey is “doing a great job. He’s a special breed and he is on the positive side of returning for sure.”

After the game, a 42-21 Dolphins win, McDaniel was asked about the reports but wouldn’t confirm their validity.

“I think he’s doing great, guys,” he said. He added: “I think it’s getting ahead of yourself, especially in situations like this, to all of a sudden jump ahead a couple months, a couple weeks, whatever the timeline is. But when he’s ready to go, he’ll be a loud voice in my ear.”

Ramsey currently remains on injured reserve but the Dolphins could designate him to return to practice, which would open a 21-day window to active him to the 53-man roster.

Miami will face the Philadelphia Eagles on the road next Sunday, followed by a home game against the New England Patriots and a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs in Germany. Miami has a bye in Week 10 before returning to host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 11.

ESPN also reported that rookie running back De’Von Achane, who was placed on IR last Wednesday because of a knee injury, is likely to miss the required four games and then return for the Raiders game on Nov. 19.

Achane injured his knee late in the Dolphins’ Week 5 win against the New York Giants. Entering Week 6, Achane led the Dolphins and ranked second in the NFL with 460 rushing yards. His 12.1-yard average also leads the league.

Injury note

Cornerback Xavien Howard and rookie running back Chris Brooks left Sunday’s game with a groin and ankle injury, respectively, and did not return to the game.

Howard left early in the fourth quarter and was announced as questionable to return but remained on the sideline with the Dolphins up multiple scores. Brooks was quickly ruled out after heading to the locker room on a cart with 2:43 remaining.

Inside linebacker Jerome Baker also sustained a back injury in the second half but returned to the game before Miami’s defensive starts were subbed out.

McDaniel did not have an update on the players but said all would undergo evaluations.

Thomas honored

At halftime of Sunday’s game against the Panthers, NFL Hall of Famer and Dolphins great Zach Thomas was honored as part of a weekend celebration.

Joined on the field by his family, team owner Stephen M. Ross and president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Jim Porter, Thomas was presented with the Kay Jewelers Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence.
