Dolphins activate Robert Jones from IR, elevate Tanner Conner for game vs. Panthers

The Dolphins have activated offensive lineman Robert Jones from injured reserve and elevated tight end Tanner Conner from the practice squad for Sunday’s home game against the Carolina Panthers.

On Oct. 4, Jones was designated to return to practice after starting the season on IR because of a knee injury. He fills the open spot on the 53-man roster and is the first Dolphin to return from short-term IR. NFL rules allow up to eight players to return from IR and the non-football injury list each season.

It’s the first elevation of the season for Conner, who made the team as an undrafted rookie last season and appeared in 13 games.

The Dolphins also downgraded cornerback Nik Needham (Achilles) and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. (ribs) to out for Sunday’s game.

Like Jones, Needham was designated to return to practice on Oct. 4. Needham started the season on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list as he continued his rehabilitation from a torn Achilles he sustained last October. He was listed as doubtful to play.

Wilson, who was also listed as doubtful, returned to practice on Wednesday after starting the season on IR.

With Wilson out and rookie running back De’Von Achane on IR because of a knee injury, Raheem Mostert, Salvon Ahmed and rookie Chris Brooks will lead the running game on Sunday.
