Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September, the NFL announced Thursday.
Tagovailoa is the first Dolphins player to win AFC Offensive Player of the Month since October 1993, when quarterback Scott Mitchell won the honor. Dan Marino also received the award in November 1986 and October 1988.
As the Dolphins have started 3-0, Tagovailoa has been at the center of the most explosive offense in the league. He has completed 71.3 percent of his passes for 1,024 yards and eight touchdowns. Tagovailoa leads the NFL in passer rating (121.9) and yards per attempt (10.1). He also ranks second in passing yards and first in the AFC in passing touchdowns.
The Dolphins offense has more points scored (130) and total yards (1,651) than any NFL team has accrued through the first three games of a season since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970.
