Dolphins sign Goode, Chosen to active roster. And Winovich elevated for Bills game
After using up three allotted practice squad elevations, the Dolphins have signed linebacker Cameron Goode to the 53-man roster, the team announced Saturday. Miami also signed wide receiver Robbie Chosen from the practice squad to the active roster and elevated defensive end Chase Winovich for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
Goode, a 2022 seventh-round pick of the Dolphins, has appeared almost exclusively on special teams in the first three games of the season. He has logged 44 special-teams snaps and played 14 defensive snaps; the time on defense all came in the Dolphins’ Week 3 blowout of the Denver Broncos.
Asked on Thursday about the potential for Goode to be added to the active roster, special teams coordinator Danny Crossman said: “It’s an ebb and flow, but he’s a guy that we feel good about, if he’s got a uniform, of contributing for us.”
Chosen made his season debut in Week 3 after being elevated from the practice squad. He caught one pass, a 68-yard touchdown, in the win.
“He is able to execute tasks that seem menial, that are huge, that allows you to be on the field to make plays,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Friday. “I think last week, he had the opportunity. We started rotating him at the beginning of the game and he gave us a reason not to take him out. So then he got a lot of burn. That will always be the case. You’re playing well, and you get to stay in there. I would say [his] playmaking ability is very intriguing to us and one of the reasons why he’s here. But it’s his immersion into the offense that allows him to actually do something with it on Sundays.”
Goode and Chosen fill the two vacant spots on the 53-man roster that were created after Miami on Friday placed wide receiver River Cracraft on injured reserve and fellow wideout Erik Ezukanma on the reserve/non-football injury list. Both players will be sidelined for a minimum of four games.
It’s the second elevation for Winovich, who was called up and made his season debut in Week 2 against the New England Patriots with outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips sidelined by injury. Winovich played 16 special-teams snaps and two defensive snaps. With Phillips out again, this time because of an oblique injury, Winovich will provide depth behind expected starters Bradley Chubb and Andrew Van Ginkel.
