Dolphins waive 2 players. And Miami signing former Vikings safety
The Dolphins opened two rosters spot on Wednesday, announcing they waived punter Michael Turk and waived safety Bennett Williams with an injury designation.
Miami is also filling one of those vacancies by signing former Minnesota Vikings safety Myles Dorn, a league source told the Miami Herald.
Dorn, 25, has appeared in 14 games over the last two seasons, exclusively as a special teams contributor. He originally signed with Minnesota as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
Dorn brings depth to the Dolphins’ secondary with cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey (meniscus surgery) and Keion Crossen (undisclosed) sidelined and fellow defensive backs Brandon Jones and Trill Williams making gradual process in their return from ACL tears. The two participated in team drills for the first time on Tuesday but still wore red, non-contact jerseys.
The Dolphins originally signed Turk and Williams as part of their undrafted rookie haul in May. Turk is the nephew of former Miami punter Matt Turk and was a longshot to unseat Jake Bailey, whom the Dolphins signed to a one-year deal, most of which is guaranteed, in the offseason.
Williams did not practice on Tuesday and was seen on the sideline with a compression sleeve on his left leg. If he clears waived, he will revert to the Dolphins’ injured reserve list.
