Where Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa and two of his teammates landed in NFL’s top 100 players list
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s breakout 2022 season was recognized by NFL fans — he was the leading vote-getter for the Pro Bowl — and now it’s being acknowledged by his peers.
This week, the NFL is releasing its list of top 100 players in the league, and Tagovailoa on Tuesday was revealed to be voted No. 82. It’s the first appearance for Tagovailoa on the list, picked by fellow players.
“He’s like the Steph Curry of that offense,” San Francisco 49ers linebackers Fred Warner said. “He’s the point guard. Everything runs through Tua.”
Said Washington Commanders defensive lineman Jonathan Allen: “I think the difference between [2022] Tua and [2021] Tua was confidence. I mean, he said it himself. He didn’t know if he was good enough to play in this league. Credit to his coach [Mike McDaniel] to really make sure he has that confidence moving forward.”
Tagovailoa led the NFL in passer rating (105.5) last season and set career-high numbers for passing touchdowns (25) and passing yards (3.548).
Two other Dolphins were revealed on the top 100 list Tuesday. Offensive tackle Terron Armstead was ranked No. 83 — his second appearance on the list — and defensive lineman Christian Wilkins also made his debut at No. 81.
A new group of 10 players will be revealed every weekday through Thursday, Aug. 3. The series concludes with a two-hour live show on Monday, Aug. 7, on NFL+.
