Two Dolphins seeking new deals will report to training camp, agent says

Dolphins starting center Connor Williams wasn’t present at mandatory minicamp last month as he seeks a new deal. But Williams is expected to report to Miami Gardens for training camp with other veterans on Tuesday, his agent Drew Rosenhaus said Sunday night.

Rosenhaus told WSVN-7 that Williams will be at the team’s facility for training camp, as the Dolphins are set to hold their first full practice on Wednesday.

Williams, 26, is entering the final season of the two-year deal he signed last offseason. He is set to make $6.5 million in base salary but only $2 million in guaranteed. When asked about Williams’ absence from minicamp, head coach Mike McDaniel said it was not excused. Williams started every game last season after making the switch from guard to center and was one of the offensive line’s top performers.

The collective bargaining agreement strongly discourages players from holding out with daily fines of $50,000 that cannot be rescinded or reduced by the team. However, in recent years players have opted to “hold in,” reporting to camp but not practicing as the contract dispute is settled. It most recently occurred with cornerback Xavien Howard two years ago.

Another Dolphin whom Rosenhaus represents, defensive lineman Zach Sieler, will also report to camp, the agent said. Sieler was not seen at the organized team activities practices open to media and then was present but did not participate in team drills during minicamp.

Sieler, 27, is entering the final season of a three-year extension he signed in 2020. He is set to make $2.5 million in base salary but none of it is guaranteed. Last season, Sieler set career highs for defensive snaps, tackles and sacks.

Fellow defensive lineman Christian Wilkins, who is set to play on the fifth-year option, is also reporting to camp, ESPN reported previously. The Dolphins have had talks with Wilkins’ representation on an extension. Wilkins was present at the OTA practices open to media and minicamp.
