Dolphins sign top pick Cam Smith, finalizing 2023 Draft class
The Dolphins on Wednesday announced they have signed rookie cornerback and top pick Cam Smith, officially getting all members of their 2023 Draft class under contract. Smith is the last of Miami’s four picks to sign their rookie deal.
Under the rookie wage scale in the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, the total contract value for Smith, the No. 51 overall pick, will be about $7 million over four years with a $2.1 million signing bonus. Smith’s contract will carry a cap hit of about $1.27 million in 2023.
NFL Network reported in June that the NFL Players Association was pushing for more guarantees for second-round picks, which could have explained the delay in Smith’s contract getting signed.
Smith, a three-year starter at South Carolina who twice earned second-team All-SEC honors, is expected to compete for snaps as a boundary corner behind Jalen Ramsey, Xavien Howard and Kader Kohou.
Smith will report to training camp along with other Dolphins rookies on July 18. Veterans will arrive on July 25.
