Dolphins sign three of four draft picks to rookie deals
One day after receiving over $13 million from the release of cornerback Byron Jones, the Dolphins have begun to put it to use.
Miami on Friday announced it has signed three of its four draft picks: running back De’Von Achane, tight end Elijah Higgins and offensive lineman Ryan Hayes. Only cornerback Cam Smith, the team’s top pick, remains unsigned.
Under the rookie wage scale in the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, the total contract value for Achane, the No. 84 overall pick, will be $5.4 million over four years with a $954,000 signing bonus, according to Spotrac.
Higgins, the No. 197 overall pick, will receive a four-year contract worth about $4 million with a $175,000 signing bonus, per Spotrac. And Hayes, the No. 238 overall pick, will get a four-year deal worth $3.9 million and an $87,000 signing bonus.
The Dolphins entered Friday with $13.9 million in cap space, according to Over the Cap. During the offseason and up until the first week of the regular season, the NFL counts salary cap by accounting for only the 51 most-expensive cap hits on a team.
