Tyreek Hill sets another Dolphins franchise record. And updates on Chubb, Ingold injuries
Tyreek Hill’s first season with the Miami Dolphins still isn’t over and yet he now holds the majority of the franchise’s major single-season receiving yards.
With four catches for 103 in the Dolphins’ 26-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Hill now has the most receptions in a single season in Miami history, breaking a mark previously held by Jarvis Landry.
Hill, who was voted into the Pro Bowl for the seventh time Wednesday, also set the team’s single-season record for receiving yards Dec. 11, in just his 13th game as a Dolphin.
The All-Pro wide receiver now has 113 catches for 1,632 yards and seven touchdowns in his debut season for Miami. He has basically no chance to set the Dolphins’ single-season record for receiving touchdowns, which was set by former wide receiver Mark Clayton with 18 during the 1984 NFL season.
Hill is now on pace for 1,849 receiving yards, which would be the fourth most in a single season in NFL history.
Star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and running back Raheem Mostert also hit some historic marks this weekend: With eight carries for 45 yards, Mostert now has a single-season career high in rushing yards with 791 this year, and Waddle’s 84-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter was the fourth longest play in Miami history and the longest offensive touchdown ever scored on Christmas in NFL history.
“They just called my number. Tua gave me a ball,” Waddle said. “You have to credit ‘Reek.’ He had some good downfield blocking to really spring me.”
Bradley Chubb plays through injury
Bradley Chubb played most of the game with his right hand wrapped, but said he feels fine after missing one series in the first half with a hand injury.
The Dolphins (8-7) originally announced the linebacker was questionable to return before he returned after missing one drive.
Chubb, 26, went back to the locker room with 4:10 left in the first quarter, right after the Packers (7-8) scored on fourth down to tie the game 7-7, and was back on the field by the midpoint of the second quarter.
Chubb, who came to Miami right before the trade deadline last month in exchange for a first-round pick, had one tackle and one quarterback hit in the loss and now has 13 tackles, a tackle for loss, 2 1/2 sacks and a forced fumble in seven games with the Dolphins.
Alec Ingold also left the game with a thumb injury in the fourth quarter and did not return. The 26-year-old fullback wore an inflatable air splint on his right hand in the locker room after the game.
