Dolphins starting tackles miss practice for second consecutive day

Dolphins starting offensive tackles Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson didn’t practice Thursday for the second consecutive day.

Armstead once again missed practice because of a toe and pectoral injury, while Jackson was sidelined because of an ankle injury. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said he does not expect Jackson to play against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. McDaniel has not ruled out Armstead, who reportedly sustained a partial tear of his pectoral and has sparingly practiced this season.

With Jackson likely out Sunday, Brandon Shell is expected to step in at right tackle. If Armstead, who has only missed one game this season, cannot play, Greg Little is expected to start at left tackle. The Dolphins could also elevate newly-signed tackle Kendall Lamm for depth on Sunday. Kion Smith is also on the practice squad but Miami has used its allotted three call-ups for him this season. To add Smith to the game-day roster, the Dolphins would have to sign him to the 53-man roster and free a spot with a corresponding move.

Running back Myles Gaskin, who didn’t practice Wednesday because of a shoulder and ankle injury, was also sidelined for a second consecutive day.

Inside linebacker Jerome Baker (hip) and defensive tackle Raekwon Davis (knee) were upgraded from limited to full participation Thursday. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (ankle) was also a full participant again.

Outside linebacker Melvin Ingram, who received a vet rest day Wednesday, returned to practice Thursday and was a full participant.
