Dolphins DE Emmanuel Ogbah out for season with triceps injury
Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah tore his triceps in the team’s 39-17 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the season, league sources told the Miami Herald.
Ogbah sustained the injury in the second quarter of the game and the Dolphins (7-3) later ruled him out with an elbow injury.
In the first season of a four-year, $65 million deal, Ogbah, 29, had a quiet first half of the season. He had led the Dolphins in sacks in consecutive seasons but had just one sack Sunday’s game. He missed a Week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers because of a back injury and his playing time had dipped to 62 percent of the defensive snaps, his lowest since joining the Dolphins on a two-year deal in 2020.
Ogbah becomes the latest starting defender to be lost for the season because of injury, joining cornerback Nik Needham (Achilles) and safety Brandon Jones (knee). Outside linebacker Trey Flowers is also on injured reserve with a foot injury and it is unclear whether he will be able to return this season.
Miami’s defense, which has struggled in the first half of the season, had one of its better performances Sunday. The Dolphins limited the Browns to a season-low 297 total yards of offense and sacked quarterback Jacoby Brissett three times.
With Ogbah now out for the season, the acquisition of outside linebacker Bradley Chubb becomes more important for the Dolphins as they pursue their first playoff appearance since 2016. Chubb was credited with a half-sack Sunday, his first since the Dolphins traded for him on Nov. 1.
ESPN first reported that Ogbah sustained a season-ending injury.
