Miami Dolphins lose depth on defensive line, in secondary with injuries vs. Browns

The Miami Dolphins’ underwhelming pass rush took a hit Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Emmanuel Ogbah exited with an elbow injury in the second quarter and did not return.

The defensive end spent some time in the blue medical tent before walking back into the tunnel at Hard Rock Stadium. The Dolphins quickly announced he was questionable to return and officially ruled him out early in the second half in Miami Gardens.

Ogbah is one of five edge rushers to start at least one game for the Dolphins so far this season and his seven quarterback hits were second on the team entering the weekend.

It has, however, mostly been a quiet season for Ogbah, who last year led Miami with nine sacks and all NFL defensive linemen with 12 passes defended. The 29-year-old end has just one sack, all the way back in the Dolphins’ season-opening win against the New England Patriots, and has started only three games. He has 11 total tackles and one tackle for loss and did not record a stat this week.

Linebackers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb, who came to Miami in exchange for a first-round pick ahead of the trade deadline Nov. 1, started on the edge against the Browns, with defensive tackles Zach Sieler, Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis starting on the line.

Dolphins lose more cornerback depth

The Dolphins only dressed four cornerbacks against Cleveland and lost one of those before the first half ended.

Cornerback Keion Crossen left with 1:22 left in the half after injuring his shoulder on a punt return. Miami quickly announced he was questionable to return and officially ruled him out in the second half.

Crossen recorded one tackle on special teams before the injury.

Crossen’s injury leaves the Dolphins with only three healthy cornerbacks for the day: Xavien Howard, Kader Kohou and Justin Bethel. Fellow cornerback Noagh Igbinoghene was surprisingly inactive after Miami signed rookie safety Verone McKinley III to the active roster Saturday and decided to make him active.

The Dolphins were already missing cornerbacks Trill Williams, Byron Jones and Nik Needham, all of whom are on injured reserve.
