Another Pro Football Talk report has implicated the Dolphins with quarterback Tom Brady, saying the team had plans to introduce him as a minority owner shortly after he announced his intention to retire in February.

The website reported Thursday that Brady, 44, would have been introduced as soon as the following week, which would have been the week after the Super Bowl.

According to a league source, the Dolphins had internal discussions about Brady for a front office role only.

Brady, who never filed retirement paperwork with the league office, announced his return to the game in March, less than two months after his initial retirement announcement. He’s set to play his 23rd season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and new head coach Todd Bowles, elevated to the role after Bruce Arians announced he is stepping down and moving to a role in Tampa Bay’s front office.

It’s not the first time the Dolphins have been linked to Brady this offseason. In former Dolphins coach Brian Flores’ lawsuit, he alleges team owner Stephen Ross set up a meeting with Flores and a “prominent quarterback in violation of League tampering rules” after the 2019 season. The quarterback is believed to be Brady.

And Pro Football Talk reported the Dolphins planned to pursue former New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton and Brady this offseason. The report claims that after bringing on Brady as an owner, it would have sought to hire Payton from New Orleans and then get Brady’s rights from Tampa Bay. While general manager Chris Grier confirmed at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team did reach out to the Saints before hiring Mike McDaniel as head coach, he denied ever speaking with Brady.

At the league owners meetings last week, McDaniel called any talk of Brady coming to Miami “fake news.”
