NFL free agent blog: Former Dolphins QB joining Watson, Browns as Collins remains unsigned
Welcome to Day 6 of our Dolphins-flavored NFL free agent blog.
As of mid-afternoon Saturday, the Dolphins hadn’t planned to bring in offensive tackle La’el Collins for a visit, but the situation could change. Collins, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys Thursday, visited the Cincinnati Bengals Friday but left without a deal. The Bengals remain a possible landing spot for the 28-year-old right tackle, though, and the Dolphins are monitoring his situation.
The Dolphins are also believed to have interest in left tackle Terron Armstead, who is regarded as the top lineman in this year’s free-agent cycle but has yet to sign with a team. If the Dolphins sign Armstead, they could play Liam Eichenberg or Robert Hunt at right tackle in 2022.
4 p.m. update: Former Dolphins quarterback Jacoby Brissett is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN. Brissett, a West Palm Beach native, started five games in 2021 and had a 2-3 record. He’s expected to be the backup for Deshaun Watson after the Browns on Friday completed a trade for the embattled quarterback.
The Dolphins are set to host the Browns in 2022, meaning the Dolphins could face Watson at Hard Rock Stadium or Brissett if Watson is still serving out an expected suspension in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct against him.
Brissett is the second Dolphins unrestricted free agent to join another team. Wide receiver Mack Hollins signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.
8 p.m.: Collins’ visit with the Bengals concluded and he is scheduled to visit at least one more team in the next two days, according to NFL Network. Cincinnati “is still in play and will remain in communication” with Collins, according to the report.
