The Dolphins on Tuesday tendered a pair of exclusive rights free agents, running back Salvon Ahmed and cornerback Elijah Campbell, keeping them in Miami for the 2022 season.

An exclusive rights free agent is a player on an expiring contract who has two or fewer accrued seasons in the league. Players must be on a team’s active roster for six games to earn an accrued season. If a team gives a player a tender — a nonguaranteed, one-year deal worth the league minimum salary — they are unable to negotiate with other teams.

Ahmed, 23, was originally signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He appeared in 12 games in 2021, rushing 54 times for 149 yards. Ahmed also caught 12 passes for 117 yards.

Campbell, 26, was claimed off waivers from the New York Jets after the deadline to cut rosters to 53 players. Originally an undrafted free agent in 2018, Campbell appeared in seven games this past season, logging 133 snaps on special teams.

The Dolphins also placed the nonexclusive franchise tag on tight end Mike Gesicki ahead of the league’s 4 p.m. Tuesday deadline.
