Dolphins sign wide receiver who played under coach Mike McDaniel with 49ers
The Dolphins on Thursday signed wide receiver River Cracraft, who has played the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and new coach Mike McDaniel.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Cracraft, who signed to the Denver Broncos’ practice squad as an undrafted free agent in 2017, has appeared in 24 games with one start. He has recorded seven career receptions for 85 yards. Cracraft, whom the 49ers waived in January, also has experience on special teams; he has 17 punt returns for 80 yards, three kickoff returns for 43 yards and five tackles. The Dolphins struggled to find a replacement for returner Jakeem Grant after trading him. Jaylen Waddle and Jevon Holland split return duties during the 2021 season.
Cracraft is the first of potentially multiple former players under McDaniel who could rejoin him in Miami as he looks to find the right personnel to implement his offensive scheme. Impending 49ers free agents who could be fits include running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson and guard Laken Tomlinson.
Cracraft joins a wide receiver room that could be in line for another shakeup this offseason. Will Fuller, Mack Hollins, Albert Wilson and Isaiah Ford are unrestricted free agents and Preston Williams is a restricted free agent.
