Trio of Dolphins rookies receive postseason honors from Pro Football Writers of America
The Dolphins’ top-three picks from the 2021 NFL Draft were honored by the Pro Football Writers of America Tuesday.
Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, linebacker Jaelan Phillips and safety Jevon Holland were named to the 2021 PFWA All-Rookie Team.
Each rookie played an instrumental role in the Dolphins finishing with consecutive winning records for the first time since 2003.
Waddle, the No. 6 overall pick, caught 104 passes, setting a new NFL rookie record for receptions. He was also voted team MVP by local media, the first rookie to receive the honor since Zach Thomas in 1996.
Phillips, the No. 18 pick, ranked second on the Dolphins with 81/2 sacks. He became the first rookie since Julius Peppers in 2002 to record at least 6.0 sacks in a three-game span.
Holland, the No. 36 pick, ranked second on the Dolphins with two interceptions and added 69 combined tackles and 21/2 sacks. Pro Football Focus graded Holland as the fourth-best safety in the NFL this season.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was named PFWA Offensive Rookie of the Year and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons was named PFWA Defensive Rookie of the Year.
