Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard named to Pro Bowl for third time
Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard was named to the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster Wednesday night, the third time Howard has earned the honor.
The sixth-year player, voted a starter, was the sole Dolphin to be named to the NFL’s all-star game, which will be held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Feb. 6.
After battling injuries and self-admitted struggles earlier in the season, Howard has been one of multiple defensive players whose improvements have driven the Dolphins’ six-game winning streak. In 13 games, Howard has four interceptions, 40 tackles, 14 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He was named Defensive Player of the Week after the team’s Week 10 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Howard, who after an offseason contract dispute received a restructured contract from the Dolphins in training camp, will get a $1 million bonus for making the Pro Bowl. He’s the 14th player in Dolphins history to be a three-time Pro Bowl starter and just the second cornerback, joining Sam Madison.
Howard was also named to Pro Bowl in 2018 and 2020, a season in which he led the NFL with 10 interceptions.
