Dolphins activate Raekwon Davis from IR, elevate two practice squad players
The Dolphins activated defensive tackle Raekwon Davis from injured reserve, the team announced Saturday, paving the way for him to make his return from a knee injury that sidelined him for the past three games.
Davis injured his knee on the first possession of the Dolphins’ Week 1 win over the New England Patriots but is expected to return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He returned to practice this week after sitting out the minimum three games while on IR.
Without Davis, the Dolphins have struggled to stop the run, allowing 136.8 yards per game, which ranks 27th in the NFL.
The Dolphins also elevated defensive end Jabaal Sheard and wide receiver Isaiah Ford from the practice squad for Sunday’s game. Both could make their season debuts if active on Sunday.
Ford has been in Miami for multiple stints. Originally a seventh-round pick of the Dolphins in 2017, Ford was traded to the Patriots during the 2020 season and then re-signed with Miami once New England released him after just one month. He re-signed with Miami in July and was with the team during training camp.
Ford’s elevation could provide insurance at wide receiver if DeVante Parker, who is questionable with shoulder and hamstring injuries, cannot play.
Sheard, an 11-year veteran, signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad days before the start of the regular season. A Hollywood Hills native, Sheard has appeared in 144 games, making 106 starts. He has recorded 53 sacks in his career.
