Dolphins CB Byron Jones returns to practice after missing Wednesday session

Dolphins cornerback Byron Jones returned to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday’s session because of a quadriceps and Achilles injury.

Jones left last Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts early with the injury, but his return suggests the team avoided a long-term injury. His availability for the team’s Week 5 road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be a boost to a secondary facing the top-ranked passing offense in the NFL. If Jones cannot play, Justin Coleman would likely take his spot on the boundary, with Nik Needham playing in the slot.

Defensive tackle Raekwon Davis, who was designated to return to practice Wednesday after missing the past three games on injured reserve, was also participating in practice for the second straight day. Davis was placed on IR with a knee injury sustained in Week 1. The Dolphins have yet to officially activate him to the 53-man roster. They have a 21-day window from his return to practice to do so.
