Miami Dolphins call in secondary reinforcements, finally get good injury news
Miami Dolphins cornerback Tae Hayes will make his 2020 debut Thursday evening after the Dolphins elevated him to their active roster from the practice squad earlier in the day.
The Dolphins do not need to make a corresponding roster move due to the NFL’s new COVID-related roster policy.
Hayes is needed because Byron Jones will not play against the Jaguars due to a groin injury he suffered Sunday.
The Dolphins decided on Hayes as their fifth cornerback over Javaris Davis and Cordrea Tankersley, who are also on their practice squad.
The other four who will play Thursday: Xavien Howard, Jamal Perry, Noah Igbinoghene and Nik Needham.
(Igbinoghene will start in place of Jones, according to a press box announcement.)
That group struggled after Jones left the Bills game, surrendering over 400 pass yards and four touchdowns to Josh Allen.
They do get a break Thursday, however:
The Jaguars ruled out No. 1 wide receiver D.J. Chark due to chest and back injuries.
Dolphins inactives: RB/WR Malcolm Perry; WR Lynn Bowden Jr.; CB Byron Jones; S Clayton Fejedelem; DE Jason Strowbridge; T Adam Pankey.
Jaguars inactives: QB Jake Luton; WR DJ Chark Jr.; CB Josiah Scott; CB Luq Barcoo; DT Doug Costin; OL Brandon Linder.
