Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross pledges $500K in South Florida coronavirus relief
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has pledged a half-million dollars toward South Florida coronavirus relief for the elderly and youth.
Ross is one of a growing number of NFL owners who have given in support of those affected by the deadly pandemic. David Tepper, who owns the Carolina Panthers, announced Friday that he’s donating $1 million to help Charlotte area hospitals dealing with the disease. The family foundation of Falcons owner Arthur Blank is donating $5.4 million for coronavirus efforts in Georgia and Montana.
Ross’ funds are earmarked for meal programs for Broward County Public Schools and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, relief efforts led by churches in Miami Gardens and to bolster programs from Feeding South Florida to provide access to food for underserved populations in the area, the Dolphins said in a statement.
“This is obviously an unprecedented situation that is affecting everyone; and affecting some people a lot more than others. We want to help those who are most vulnerable and those right here in our backyard,” Dolphins CEO Tom Garfinkel said. “We will continue to monitor the situation with our community partners and strongly encourage everyone to stay home and follow the CDC guidelines. We will get through this together.”
Furthermore, the Dolphins announced they will work with their Football Unites partners “that are on the front lines responding to the outbreak.” Addition details will be announced when finalized.
