Mike Wallace’s ‘toxic’ tweet highlights ex-Dolphins’ reaction to Tannehill’s success

Derrick Henry is the king of the NFL this morning.

But Ryan Tannehill is, at the very least, a duke.

Yes, Henry is the No. 1 reason the Titans are, astonishingly, in the AFC title game.

But Tannehill is a close second. He accounted for three of Tennessee’s four touchdowns Saturday night against the Ravens. Yes, he only completed seven — seven! — passes, but each one was important.

Power running and play action: That’s the formula the Titans have used since inserting Tannehill into the starting lineup in Week 7. And to be frank, it’s the formula the Dolphins should have followed during Tannehill’s seven years in Miami. He struggles when asked to carry a team. But when surrounded by talent and powerful ground game, he’s quite effective.

That comes as no surprise to his former Dolphins teammates, several of whom took to social media late Saturday to congratulate their old quarterback.

Like running Kenyan Drake (whom the Dolphins traded to the Cardinals in October):

And Drake’s predecessor, Lamar Miller (whom the Dolphins let leave via free agency in 2016):

And Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips (whom the Dolphins cut mid-season in 2018):

Phillips and Drake haven’t hidden the fact that they were happy to get out of Miami and have flourished, to differing degrees, since their departure.

But they’ve been downright diplomatic to their old team compared to receiver Mike Wallace, who had this message for Tannehill after Ryan’s 45-yard touchdown pass to Kalif Raymond:

The show of support was a bit eye-opening, considering Wallace and Tannehill weren’t on the same page during his two seasons in Miami.

Wallace, reminded that on Twitter, acknowledged Tannehill “wasn’t good with me,” and then later took another swipe at the Dolphins using the trash can emoji.

OK, then.
