DeVante Parker’s redemption story comes full circle. Details on his new big payday.
DeVante Parker: The most unexpected Dolphins lifer.
Parker signed a four-year, roughly $40 million contract extension with the organization that drafted him Friday, making possible his dream of retiring a Miami Dolphin.
Twelve months ago, that would have been a fantasy.
But Parker is the year’s redemption story, leading the team in catches (55), receiving yards (882) and touchdowns (six). And most importantly, he has a chance to appear in every game in 2019 after injuries sidelined him for much of his first four seasons.
“My desire was to have DeVante remain a member of the Dolphin family, and we are excited for the future in Miami,” said James Gould, Parker’s agent who negotiated the deal.
Parker’s new contract supersedes the one he signed last year, a two-year, $10 million deal with nothing guaranteed beyond this season. He will now make more than $20 million guaranteed during the next two seasons, and has a chance to earn another $1.5 million in incentives this year with five more catches and 120 more yards.
Parker ranks 15th in Dolphins history in career receiving yards (3,099) and 16th in career receptions (218).
Parker did suffer a concussion in last week’s game, but seems on track to play Sunday against the Giants.
He is now the fifth Dolphins veteran to sign a contract extension since August. The others: offensive lineman Jesse Davis, wide receivers Allen Hurns and Jakeem Grant and safety Eric Rowe.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins made one other minor roster move Friday, claiming defensive back Tae Hayes off waivers and placing defensive lineman Gerald Willis (hip) on injured reserve.
