Dolphins cut Brandon Doughty to make room for Chris Jones
Earl Mitchell’s injury cost Brandon Doughty a spot on the Dolphins’ 53-man roster.
Why? Because the Dolphins needed a spot for Chris Jones, a veteran defensive tackle who spent training camp with Miami.
Doughty, the rookie quarterback out of Western Kentucky, would be a candidate for the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Mitchell is out at least eight weeks after the Dolphins placed him on injured reserve with a persistent calf injury. That left the team thin at defensive tackle, so Miami brought back Jones, who spent the previous three years with the Patriots.
Sunday will be a homecoming of sorts for Jones; the Dolphins travel to New England this weekend.
