Miami Heat

Powell, Larsson, Herro out: Heat ends pre-break schedule once again short-handed

The Heat will end its pre-All-Star break schedule in much the same way it meandered through the first 55 games: without key rotation players.

Norman Powell (back) and Pelle Larsson (right forearm strain) will miss Wednesday’s game at New Orleans (8 p.m., FanDuel Sports Sun), while Tyler Herro (ribs) will miss his 45th game of the season, having played in only 11 primarily because of ankle and rib injuries.

The Heat also remains without center Vlad Goldin (G League), forward Keshad Johnson (G League) and guard Terry Rozier (not with team).

Powell, who did not accompany the team to Louisiana, began feeling back discomfort during Sunday’s win at Washington and missed Monday’s loss against Utah. He intends to compete in the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday.

Powell closed the first half of the season having played in 45 of a potential 56 games while averaging a career-high 23 points on 47.4% shooting and 39.6 percent accuracy on three-pointers.

Larsson will miss a third consecutive game with the forearm injury.

This and that

▪ Bam Adebayo on Monday became the first player in franchise history with at least 250 career double-doubles as a member of the Heat.

▪ Rookie guard Kasparas Jakucionis extended his streak of consecutive three-point makes over two games to nine on Monday before missing one. He became the third Heat player since the start of the 1996-97 season to hit nine in a row, joining Chris Bosh (Oct. 2015) and Goran Dragic (Feb. 2017).

▪ The Heat has outscored teams by four points in the 290 minutes when Adebyao and Kel’el Ware share the court this season. They started together for the 20th time on Monday.

Here’s my Tuesday piece with answers to 14 questions asked by Heat fans.
