Podcast: Discussing Duncan Robinson’s injury, Bam Adebayo’s All-NBA case, and Tyler Herro
The Miami Heat is dealing with another rash of injuries as it moves toward the end of its West Coast trip.
Tyler Herro hit a game-winning three-pointer on New Year’s Eve, Bam Adebayo is playing some of the best basketball of his career and the Heat looked to be finally stabilizing, even with a recent injury to Duncan Robinson. But then the Heat lost 112-109 to a Los Angeles Lakers team missing LeBron James and Anthony Davis on Wednesday night to fall to 2-2 on its five-game trip.
David Wilson and Anthony Chiang, the Miami Herald’s Heat beat writer, are back after the holiday for a new episode of the Heat Check podcast, recapping a busy week for Miami.
Robinson’s injury is a bummer — as is rookie small forward Nikola Jovic’s — and once again pushes the Heat up toward a potentially precarious situation, but, for now, it shouldn’t be enough to derail Miami too badly.
The larger implications are what will happen if the Heat has to deal with another injury and how it might be able to handle the trade deadline next month.
Despite Wednesday’s ugly loss to the Lakers, it has mostly been good news recently for the Heat. Miami has won eight of its last 12 games, and its two youngest players are powering those victories. Herro delivered one of the best moments of the year — sneaking it in right before New Year’s Day — when he beat the buzzer and the Utah Jazz on Saturday at Vivint Arena. Adebayo is still on a tear, now averaging a career-high 21.8 points per game after scoring 30 against the Lakers in Los Angeles.
The latter is putting together the best season of his still young career and, only 25, he’s increasingly looking like a player worthy of a spot on an All-NBA Team this year. It’s really not such a hard case to make.
