“You do want to acknowledge the steps along the way. This is not easy,” coach Erik Spoelstra said after leading the Heat to the East finals for the sixth time in the last 12 seasons. “We’ve been doing this now for 27 years since Pat [Riley] came down to South Florida. ... Every single year, we’ve had that goal to get to the Finals and compete for a title. It’s not easy in this league and I wanted everybody in the locker room just to acknowledge that. It’s not everything, but it is something.”

With the Heat finishing off its second-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday, the team took few days off before returning to the practice court at FTX Arena on Sunday.

“It’s a long journey, it’s a tough journey,” Spoelstra continued. “You have to commit to something that’s bigger than yourselves. And there’s a handful of guys that have never been to the conference finals. [Victor Oladipo] has never been and he’s played on a lot of good teams in this league. It’s hard to do and we’ll be able to reflect on that for an evening.”
