Miami Heat

Podcast: All is well in Miami? The Heat ends a tumultuous week with a huge win in Boston

A tumultuous week for the Miami Heat culminated with a statement win Wednesday.

After four straight losses and an as-should-be-expected blowout win against the Sacramento Kings, the Heat went on the road and took down the Boston Celtics, 106-98, to officially clinch a playoff spot and seriously bolster its chances to take the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Most importantly, Miami shrugged answered the questions which piled up when it lost a series of ugly shorthanded teams, while openly feuding on the bench in one of them.

On a new episodes of the Heat Check podcast, David Wilson and Anthony Chiang, the Heat beat writer for the Miami Herald, offer their instant analysis of the Heat’s win against the Celtics, with Chiang calling in live from Boston. It was a victory to prove Miami (49-28) is still every bit the championship contender it appeared to be throughout the bulk of this season and can match up with anyone in the East. After all, no one in the conference has been hotter than the Celtics lately and Miami matched them blow for blow, asserting their will on defense and making tough shots to win in the TD Garden.

It’s the type of win to make everyone forget about the season-worst four-game skid the Heat was on just four days earlier.

As for the rest of the week, it was an eventful one. Forwards Jimmy Butler and Udonis Haslem had to be separated on the bench during Miami’s blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors on March 23. On Friday, the Heat blew a 17-point fourth-quarter lead to the New York Knicks. On Saturday, Miami got blown out by the Brooklyn Nets, who remain a potential first-round opponent.

One good win doesn’t erase all of the Heat’s issues, but it does quell any concerns Miami was spiraling at the worst possible time. Once again, the Heat looked like one of the best teams in the NBA and has inspired confidence it can maybe come out of the tightlty contested East.
