Podcast: Breaking down the Heat’s trade with Thunder and other topics ahead of the deadline

It’s NBA trade deadline day, and the Miami Heat has already made a move.

In this week’s episode of the Heat Check podcast, Anthony Chiang and David Wilson broke down Wednesday’s deal between the Heat and the Oklahoma City Thunder as Thursday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline looms.

The Heat sent forward KZ Okpala to the Thunder in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick. With the trade, Miami opened another roster spot, added flexibility under the luxury tax and unlocked additional first-round picks that can be included in a future trade

Chiang and Wilson discussed all of the story lines surrounding the move, and the short-term and long-term implications for the Heat.

Will the Heat make another trade before Thursday’s deadline? Chiang and Wilson gave their predictions.

The episode ended with a conversation about Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra, who were both named to the list of the 15 greatest coaches in NBA history.
