Heat’s Bam Adebayo hosting virtual Back to School drive. Here are the details

Bam Adebayo might be in the NBA’s Disney bubble, but that doesn’t mean he has forgotten about those outside of the bubble.

The Miami Heat’s All-Star center is hosting his second annual Back to School drive this week, but it will be held virtually this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Adebayo is donating 500 backpacks to North Carolina (where he grew up) and feeding 500 families in his current home of Miami as part of his BBB (Bam, Books and Brotherhood) Foundation.

Adebayo is inviting the public to play against him in a virtual game of HORSE on HorseLegends.org in efforts to raise awareness for his Back to School drive. The campaign runs from Tuesday through Sunday.

Along with partners SnapCrack and Champs Sports, Adebayo will donate a meal or a backpack in honor of every user that beats him in the game of HORSE. These donations will be made to foundations dedicated to serving underprivileged students.

“I believe now more than ever, we have to continue to give back, raise awareness, and ask for the help of others in doing so — that’s a united front,” Adebayo said in a statement.

The goal of Adebayo’s foundation is “to inspire and encourage today’s underserved youth about the means of success. To support and guide our youth through opportunities and education.”

The Heat is scheduled to practice Tuesday afternoon in advance of Wednesday’s playoff matchup against the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. Miami holds a 2-1 lead in the series.
