Andre Iguodala omitted Aerial Powers’ name in tweet. She made sure he won’t do that again
A simple Google search could’ve saved Number 28 from the Miami Heat.
Andre Iguodala found himself in trouble Tuesday night when he fired off a tweet that was meant to praise Aerial Powers of the Washington Mystics yet omitted a key part: her name. The Mystics forward, who dropped a career-high 27 points in a win over Connecticut Sun, didn’t take too kindly to the slight.
Igoudala then seemingly dismissed Powers, choosing rather to find fault in her “manners” in a subsequent tweet that once again failed to mention her name.
The reductive response, coupled with his apparent unapologetic attitude, pushed Powers to share a 2016 TMZ Sports story in which Igoudala said he didn’t want his daughter playing basketball in fear she’d “turn into a lesbian.”
By this time Powers had the backing of several of her peers. Los Angeles Sparks guard Kristi Tolliver quote-tweeted her comments while fellow Mystic Natasha Cloud took on the challenge of explaining the issue. Even Justin Anderson of the Brooklyn Nets was confused by the lack of an apology.
“We’re in a time of fighting for equity as women,” Cloud tweeted. “Same goes for equity within our leagues. All he had to do was listen or go to google. Why not tag her and bring more attention to our league. Be a brother. Be an ally for us and our league.”
