Timberwolves president throws subtle jab at Jimmy Butler after Wednesday’s win in Miami

Jimmy Butler’s post-game Twitter fingers might be catching up to him.

Following Wednesday’s comeback win over the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves President Gersson Rosas addressed both Butler and the naysayers calling for them to tank via Twitter:

The road win was the Timberwolves’ 10 of the season, 17 overall. And while one victory won’t alleviate a season’s worth of disappointment, having it come against Butler had to feel a bit sweeter. Butler helped Minnesota break a near 15-year playoff drought yet his time there ended shortly after one inflammatory practice in which the five-time All-Star reportedly told GM Scott Layden told “You f---ing need me.”

Butler’s subpar fourth quarter play, highlighted by three turnovers and just one assist, played a major role in the Heat letting up a late 12-point lead. The Heat superstar did have a chance to win the game but three Timberwolves helped block his potential go-ahead layup in the game’s final seconds.

This isn’t the first time Butler’s social media antics have caught with him. Fellow All-Star Trae Young fired back at him on Twitter after the Atlanta Hawks beat the Heat last Thursday. The NBA also slapped Butler with a $35,000 fine for “escalating” his altercation with Indiana Pacers forward T.J. Warren on Instagram.

As for the Timberwolves, you can’t blame Rosas for being fired up. His lottery-bound team just won their season-series over a Heat squad with the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference. Throw in Butler’s history with Minnesota and this could very well be the highlight of their dismal season.
