Miami mayor renames street in front of AmericanAirlines Arena Dwyane Wade Boulevard
Miami’s celebration of Dwyane Wade just got a bit sweeter.
Two days after the Heat retired Wade’s jersey, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez announced that Northeast 7th Street has been renamed Dwyane Wade Boulevard.
“This solidifies D Wade not only as a @MiamiHEAT hero, but a @CityofMiami hero,” Suarez wrote in a tweet Monday afternoon.
The street runs perpendicular to Biscayne Boulevard right in front of AmericanAirlines Arena.
According to Suarez, the resolution passed unanimously.
Getting his own street was just the latest in a string of honors. Wade’s three-day L3GACY Celebration kicked off Friday with a replay of his career highlights and ended Sunday with an exclusive screening of his new documentary “D. Wade: Life Unexpected.” The weekend was highlighted by the retirement of his No. 3 Saturday night when he also received the key to the city as well as an Emmy for Fox Sports Sun’s broadcast of his last game.
