Podcast: The life and legacy of Kobe Bryant, and what he meant to the NBA
In a somber episode of the Heat Check podcast, there was some Heat basketball discussed. But this week was about the life of NBA legend and Lakers great Kobe Bryant.
David Wilson and Anthony Chiang, the Miami Herald’s Heat beat writer, were joined by Associated Press NBA writer Tim Reynolds to discuss Bryant’s legacy. Bryant, 41, his daughter Gianna, 13, and seven others died in a helicopter crash on Sunday in Calabasas, California.
As for Heat basketball, Wilson and Chiang listed what went wrong in Tuesday’s home loss to the Celtics. A lot of it had to do with Miami’s offense, which struggled against one of the league’s top defense.
Heat guard Dion Waiters was also a topic of discussion. After serving three team-issued suspensions over the first two months of the season, Waiters made his season debut last week and has played in three consecutive games with guard Kendrick Nunn injured.
How has Waiters looked in this three-game stint? Will Waiters continue to be part of the Heat’s rotation when Nunn returns?
For the most part, though, this episode was about Bryant. As it should be.
