Podcast: Is it time to be concerned about the Miami Heat’s defense?
December was a good month for the Miami Heat.
The Heat posted an 11-4 record during the month, which included quality wins over the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers. But defense has continued to be an issue, with Miami posting the league’s 22nd-best defensive rating during December despite all of the winning.
On Monday, the Heat’s defensive issues resulted in a 123-105 road loss to the short-handed Washington Wizards. The Wizards, led by Jordan McRae, Garrison Mathews and Ian Mahinmi, shot 51.2 percent.
Are the Heat’s defensive struggles concerning? How can defense become a strength again?
In this week’s episode of the Heat Check podcast, David Wilson and Anthony Chiang, the Miami Herald’s Heat beat writer, break down the team’s recent defensive struggles and what exactly has gone wrong.
Wilson and Chiang close by going through their version of the Heat’s All-Decade Team with the start of 2020 here. And they attempt to predict the All-Decade Team for the upcoming 10 years.
