Way of Wade’s newest brand ambassador D’Angelo Russell debuted a new shoe on Christmas
Christmas kicks used to be one of the best parts of the NBA.
NBA superstars from Kobe Bryant to LeBron James would rock limited edition sneakers that flew off shelves when they officially released. And while the tradition isn’t what it once was, Dwyane Wade did his part to keep it going.
Way of Wade’s recent signee D’Angelo Russell debuted a new shoe Wednesday in the Warriors’ 116-103 upset over the Rockets. Dubbed the Way of Wade 8 “Infinity,” the laceless, white kicks feature a dual Boa-like system and strap across the upper to provide maximum support, according to footwear website WearTesters.
Christmas Day marked the first time Russell, who was announced as the face of WoW in late November, rocked the laceless version. Photos of Russell in previous games — like in his faux poster of LeBron — show him wearing a laced model of the WoW 8s in a similar colorway .
In November, Wade explained to Bleacher Report Kicks why he knew Russell was perfect for WoW.
“I became a fan from afar,” the former Heat star said. “... One, because I’m into fashion. I really love your fashion sense. Also, two is I do see a different wave in you.”
Similarly, Russell was excited to carry the torch for somebody who he looked up to.
“You being a guy that’s paved the way for us and been through it, seen it all done it all,” Russell said. “... It’s a luxury to be able to do this with you.”
The WoW 8 “Infinity” drops Jan. 11, 2020.
