Goran Dragic listed as out for Heat game vs. Raptors because of groin injury
Just when the Heat’s roster was nearing full health, there’s a new addition to the team’s injury report.
Guard Goran Dragic is listed as out for Tuesday’s road game against the Raptors because of a strained right groin, according to the Heat’s 5:30 p.m. Monday injury report. It would mark the second game the 33-year-old Dragic has missed this season, with the first coming due to an illness in the Heat’s Nov. 16 home win over the Pelicans.
Dragic completed Sunday’s 109-106 win over the Nets with no apparent issue. He finished with a team-high 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting to go with six assists in 31 minutes.
Dragic, who has played off the bench in a sixth man role, is averaging 15.9 points on 46.6 percent shooting and five assists in 18 games this season.
Without Dragic, could guard Dion Waiters make his season debut Tuesday? Waiters has yet to play this season, but he’s with the Heat on its current trip after his 10-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team ended following Friday’s win over the Warriors.
Waiters was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Nets, which marked his first game back with the team following the suspension. He has participated in just one practice (Saturday) and Tuesday’s shootaround in Toronto will mark his first shootaround session since returning.
The Heat’s other reserve guards include Tyler Herro and Justise Winslow. Two-way contract guard Daryl Macon is expected to be with the Heat in Toronto, providing another option to help fill Dragic’s minutes.
Aside from Dragic, the only other player on Miami’s injury report is rookie forward KZ Okpala , who is listed as out for Tuesday’s game against the Raptors because of a strained left Achilles.
