Miami Heat

Podcast: Last dance for Wade-LeBron, Justise Winslow’s breakthrough and a good road trip

Monday at the Staples Center was a scene. The Miami Heat met the Los Angeles Lakers for the final time this season, which meant Dwyane Wade and LeBron James got to share the court one final time -- barring an unlikely, miraculous run for both teams to the NBA Finals next year.

While Wade started slow against the peer he called a teammate for four seasons, the guard still scored 15 points in the second half of a 108-105 loss in Los Angeles. Anthony Chiang, the Miami Herald’s Miami Heat beat writer, was on the scene and breaks down the spectacle with David Wilson on the latest edition of the Heat Check podcast.

The whole road trip has been eventful for Miami, though. Forward Justise Winslow has broken out since the Heat (11-15) has given him a shot to play point guard. Post player Bam Adebayo is playing some of his best basketball of his career. Small forward Derrick Jones Jr. put up a bizarre stat line no other true small forward ever has.

It’s all put Miami in a position to turn its season around as the road trip continues Wednesday against the Utah Jazz. Guard Goran Dragic is back in the lineup and the Heat has won four of its last six games heading into the final three games of the West Coast swing. Even despite the loss, a night like Monday has the team feeling good moving forward. Maybe it can be what propels Miami on a playoff push once the calendar flips to 2019.
