Four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry joins Unrivaled as an investor

The greatest shooter ever will officially join the Unrivaled team — as an investor.

Four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry will invest in Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 women’s basketball league announced Tuesday morning. The Golden State Warriors superstar joins the likes of fellow NBA greats such as Carmelo Anthony and Giannis Antetokounmpo as well as other power players in various industries including tennis star Coco Gauff, two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup-winner Alex Morgan and University of South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley.

“I am incredibly proud to be joining the Unrivaled family as the league continues to set a new standard for how women’s professional sports should operate — empowering athletes and ensuring they have a real stake in their own success,” Stephen Curry said in a statement. “Unrivaled is not just innovating the way we play basketball, but also how we value and invest in the athletes who drive the game forward.”

Unrivaled has raised roughly $35 million to date, according to the league. Known for its fast-paced, full court style of play as well as the equity offered to players, Unrivaled also boasts to have “highest average salaries for professional women’s team sports,” the league said in March 7 press release.

The investment comes just as playoffs is set to begin Sunday. Despite a loss in the final regular-season game, the Vinyl snuck into the postseason as the fourth seed and will play the No. 1-ranked Lunar Owls at 8:30 p.m. The Rose (No. 2) and the Laces (No. 3) will face of at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

A champion will be crowned after the two semifinal winners face off at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
