You’ll see plenty of President Trump this weekend at the Daytona 500. Here’s why.
A little more than month after attending the College Football Playoff National Championship, President Donald Trump is scheduled to be at another big sporting event: the Daytona 500, which is slated for Sunday.
But, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, race fans will see cars supporting Trump’s reelection bid with “Trump 2020” stickers on them on Friday and Saturday at the Florida race track.
The Washington Post reported “Trump/Pence logos appeared on some NASCAR vehicles in 2016.”
Tim Viens is scheduled to drive a No. 3 Chevy Silverado with a Trump 2020 logo in Friday night’s NextEra Energy 250 race, while Joe Nemechek is scheduled to drive in the Xfinity Series race with the same logo on his car, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
According to Orlando’s NBC affiliate, WESH, Trump is the second president after George W. Bush in 2004 to attend to the Daytona 500, and will do so as a grand marshal, which means he’ll announce the drivers to start their engines.
“I was sitting with a buddy at South Turn, having wings and a beer, and we were talking about different ideas,” Viens told the Daytona Beach News-Journal about the idea to put a Trump logo on the car. “He goes: “The president is running for office. How cool would it be to put Trump on the car?′ I said that would be a cool idea and started making some phone calls.”
